Raise a glass to Lake Michigan’s tiny shorebirds at Piping Plover conservation fundraiser
By Lindsay MooreNature lovers will toast to their favorite shorebird, and the efforts to keep them safe on Lake Michigan beaches, at a Piping Plover fundraiser.
The Pour for the Plovers conservation fundraiser 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at Dune Bird Winery in Northport will support Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Conversationists have much to celebrate as the population of Michigan’s tiny, fluffy shorebird has rebounded in recent years.
Last summer was the second consecutive year for a record number of unique piping plover breeding pairs.
The Dune Bird Winery is releasing two drinks inspired by the tiny heroes: a Pink Plover Rose and a Plover Punch featuring the rose. Proceeds from each bottle of limited-edition wine will support the habitat conservation efforts in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
“This partnership allows us to bring together our love for wine and our commitment to environmental conservation—not only in our vineyards and winemaking, but also in our communities and along our shorelines," “said Bekah Bell, Brand Culture and Flight Club manager at Dune Bird Winery.
